Journaling. Why is it so important?

Everyone has a story so why not document yours? Our weekly journaling prompts focus on telling YOUR story.

Why do YOU journal?
100%

Why do you personally journal? Do you journal to help clear your mind? Do you journal to help achieve your goals? Do you journal to vent your pent up emotions? Do you share life’s daily moments or only life’s big events?

JOURNALING HAS NO RULES
100%

Do not focus on perfection. Let me say that again DO NOT FOCUS ON PERFECTION because it can hold you back from telling the story that needs to be told. I am guilty of this myself. I’m terrible at grammar, spelling, etc. and I want it to be a perfectly written novel that my descendants will want to read over and over again. Instead,  I have nothing but a few digital scrapbooked pages and a lot of blank and UN-used journals.

JOURNALING IMPROVES OUR INSIGHT
100%

How does THAT work you ask? Sometimes my brain is like a constant word cloud {See image below}. It’s constantly over-active. I’m always making lists and writing things down just to clear my brain to make room for other things.

It can mentally clear our mind.  “As a positive consequence of improving your mental clarity, you become more open to insights you may have missed before. As you write your notes out, you’re essentially having a dialogue with yourself. This draws out insights that you would’ve missed otherwise; it’s almost as if two people are working together to better understand each other. This kind of insight is only available to the person who has taken the time to connect with and understand themselves in the form of writing.”  -LifeHack.org

JOURNALS ARE PRICELESS.
100%

My mom passed away from brain cancer 3 years ago.  One of my most treasured possessions she left us with were her journals and photographs. I love to see my moms unique and distinctive handwriting in her journals.  I love finding her little chicken scratch notes of advice, or funny little stories. She didn’t journal everyday, but often enough to have a small collection.

JOURNALING PROVIDES PERSONAL GROWTH
100%

It is nearly impossible not to learn and grow from journal writing.  This is what makes journaling so powerful. Journaling is often used to express personal growth, used for self discovery, finding purpose, becoming a better person, making your dreams happen or simply embracing who you are {Good OR bad}. As I always say..”Document the good, the bad, the happy and sad”.
